The one and only Mandarin Duck is back and is hanging with the geese on a snowy January day. This guy sure adds quite the splash of color to an otherwise grey and snowy day.

Hi, this guy is the only one on the pond and seems to come and go for months at a time. I was glad to get a few good shots this time and the snowy days really seemed to help show him off. Hope your day is going great.

Thanks and it was one of those lucky days where all the birds in the pond seemed curious enough of our presence to check us out.

This guy is the only one on the pond and seems to appear and disappear for months at a time. I suspect he either escaped so to speak as a pet or was let go. Either way he is a splash of color on a grey and snowy day.

Susan I am in Denver, CO. The mandarin was probably someones mail order duck who either got loose on his own or was released into the local pond as they are not native to the region. Thanks for checking out the blog and I wish you a great weekend. MIke

I love Mandarin Ducks this is beautiful. Once I posted a photo I took and a friend said, “I love this photo and how tasty Mandarin Duck is.” OMG I never thought of eating them I posted because I thought they were pretty. Some people are odd ducks. 🙂

Thanks, we think they are a domestic duck someone let loose. Sometimes they hang out with the mallards and sometimes with the geese.

Hi, we worry about this guy as he is a domestic duck who has been released into the wild and has no other of his species to hang out with.
