Yesterday these two Barn Swallows were hanging out on a fence near a lake where we took an afternoon walk. Nice to see them back in town and their colors are sure vibrant right now. Soon after these photos were shot they took off and were buzzing around the lake hunting for bugs which is always an amazing sight to observe.
Beautiful pics. Even here its fifficult to get a picture of them on a better perch than fences or electric wires!
Makes yo wonder if these little guys ever landed before we built them so many perches? 🙂
Nice Pictures Mike !!
Thanks.
They are such excellent fliers. I’m always happy to see them swooping and diving around me as I mow.
Hi Jim, it is indeed fun to watch these guys flying around especially when there are greta numbers foraging. Amazing they don’t run into each other.
Amazingly beautiful little birds that you don’t appreciate until they land! Wonderful photos!
HI, they are quite stunning to look at when they sit still. You get a whole different feeling compared to a zooming flier.
I love these photos, such clarity. Barn Swallows do have great colouring and they eat mosquitoes making them very useful.
Indeed and if we keep killing all the songbirds who will be there to control the insect populations. More insecticides or more birds? Seems like and easy answer.
I had to run inside and close the windows quickly yesterday, the city of Puerto Vallarta decided to “fumigate” the street I am on… Maybe to kill the termites but what else dies with them..
Good question, hopefully not any birds or other animals.
Great photos of the Barn Swallow. Such a pretty bird!
HI and thanks. They are quite colorful indeed.
Gorgeous images!!
Thanks.
Such beautiful little birds. And lovely to see them fly!
Hi and good morning. They are indeed very good looking birds and their flying maneuvers are something I marvel over every time I watch them buzzing about.
I esp. love that first shot, Mike, super nice – I adore swallows and never tire of watching their acrobatic flight.
Thanks Eliza, they are real beauties and sure vibrant color this time of year.
Fantastic shots! So nice to catch them sitting still!!
Yes, it is much easier to catch and appreciate their magnificent colors when they take a bit of a break drum hunting. Hope your day is going well.
Mike these are really great shots. I would be pleased to know again, which lens you have used. Thanks and keep making awesomeness!!!
Hi, for the shots posted we used a Nikon 80-400mm zoom and I suspect it was fully zoomed out to 400mm. We were shooting as they flew into the wind which made catching these guys just a bit easier.
