Much to our surprise the big bird we spotted moving about in the cattails across the river was not a Heron but a fine looking Sandhill Crane. Well camouflaged and perhaps waiting for a meal to flow by.

We feel pretty luck to have these guys pass through each spring. Always a wonderful bird to see and a clear reminder to their prehistoric ancestors.

HI Jet, yes a welcome surprise in the cattails that afternoon. Not what we expected to see so that made it just a bit more memorable. A surprise is alway a good thing.
