Someone to look up to.

Someone to look up to.

These guys seem to be buddies. In fact, more often than not, I see the Pelicans hanging with the cormorants on this island while kayaking at oxbow bend in Teton National Park.

    1. Jon, great shot as well. I guess we will need to take a closer look and try to figure out this behavior. I noticed from your blog you live in the Denver area? I do as well. You have some very strong photos. Great work.

      1. Thank you for the kind comment. 🙂 If you live in the Denver area, we should meet up sometime. I’m very close to Cherry Creek…if you ever head out there and want to tromp around with a friend, let me know.

BTW, the “David and Goliath” photo was taken at Chatfield. I’ve seen the pelican+cormorants behavior more out there than at Cherry Creek, but either are a great place to see a great variety of birds and bird behavior.

Anyway, you can find me and contact me via facebook (link icon in the footer of my blog). My phone is hooked into facebook messaging/chat, so I’m readily contactable.

I know, we get cormorants here in the uk but I’ve never seen a pelican in real life. It really does put them into size perspective.

    1. Thanks, it is a cool story. I now see these guys together almost everywhere the two have similar ranges. I need to learn more about this story. I wonder if they help each other in some way with the fishing? Have a great week.

    1. Katrina, I think you might be right. I always see these two species hanging out together on the beaches and rocky outcrops. There must be some benefit for one or both of these guys to hang out together.
