It is cool to see isn’t it. We don’t have swans around here but I have seen Mergansers doing this every once in awhile. Hope you are having a great day.
It is as clear as they say. They have done clarity tests and typically you can see down about 120 feet. The record for the lake was 149 feet! The blue is an amazing indigo – absolutely gorgeous! I posted about it a few years back when we visited, but I will be posting about my more recent visit soon. http://wineandhistory.wordpress.com/2011/08/17/crater-lake-beauty-and-some-sneezing-too/ You have a great day too!
Hi and hope things are going well. Those female mergansers do have one wild hair-do which when I take a look around the city this week well…seems not so wild.
Thats a great shot. I have a difficult relationship with mergansers. I have been trying to get a decent image for years. Never had the problem with any other waterbird – just mergansers
The smile of the day!! 🙂

Awwwe…this made me smile!! The little one is so cute but will he grow up to have bad hair like his mommy? LOL

Hi Laura, junior will inherit the bad hair day from Mom. At least there is no need for additional “product’ to maintain that style.

What a lovely image.
The first time I saw cygnets riding on their Mother’s back, I was astonished. Obviously other birds do the same thing.

Awesome shot!!! I didn’t know Mergansers carry their chicks, I thought only loons did that. Learned something new today – thanks!

Hi, very strange as around here they are shy but not nearly as shy as goldeneyes and many others.
