January is here and it is cold outside. Time to slip on that extra hoody and head out to the local pond to watch the male Hooded Mergansers strutting their stuff trying to impress the females.
A little early January pick me up of color. Cloud, earth and sky combined to deliver a spectacular sunset in a place far from home and long ago yet the memories of the experience remains strong.
Time sometimes seems to stop flowing on cold grey winters days. Is it morning, afternoon or early evening. On days like this being out in nature listening to the flow of the stream brings pulls time back and adds a perspective that brings order to the day.
The other day we spotted a few Canvasbacks in the local pond. This guy just awoke from a nap on the edge of the ice. We don’t see many Canvasbacks around our area in the winter so watching a few napping and others diving into the pond for a meal was quite a treat.
Alone on a winters day this White-tailed buck quickly scanned his surrounding and moved along on his way. Nice to make is company if only for a short time.
Yes it’s snowing lightly and yes it’s cold outside yet the sight of the sun behind the snow is a sight that say everything is right with the world today. It’s all here and it’s all in order.
