This Yellowheaded blackbird was putting on quite a show for the ladies.

Sea Lion hanging out near Point Arena in Northern California.

A female moose enjoying an early morning drink. This weekend we went out looking for migratory birds but, in addition, sighted several female moose in the flooded willows and streams of north park, including one that had just calved. Not bad for just being out on a Sunday drive.

We found this hawk hanging out in a tree surveying the fields below for a quick meal of baby prairie dogs which seemed to have all been born this week.Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife refuge.

We spotted these eggs camouflaged amongst the rock on a small island in a local pond with no goose in sight. Were they abandoned? Only time will tell.

While quietly watching the young moose learn important lessons by watching her mother it became clear that observation without words is something I should do more often.

The looks says it all. This Jay had his back to me so I was trying to sneak up on him and focus on his very colorful tail feathers. Needless to say he was on to me.

Naah… just a fine looking Muskrat munching away on a mid-day snack. Photographed near an irrigation ditch while driving the backroads of Weld County, CO hunting for migrating birds.

We watched as a pair of swallows hesitantly landed close to each other on a branch. Within a minute or two they seemed to get comfortable and began to check each other out so to speak. When the female decided she had seen enough she took to the air and the male appeared to try and follow with all his might. Unfortunately, both swallows quickly disappeared into a large flock which was feeding on insects at the pond and we soon lost track of them. I guess we will never know how this relationship ended.

This grey goose is the king/queen of the local pond.
