January is here and it is cold outside. Time to slip on that extra hoody and head out to the local pond to watch the male Hooded Mergansers strutting their stuff trying to impress the females.

We hardly ever see Western Grebes on the ponds around here this time of year so this one must have been a bit of a straggler on their migration. I hope they got on track and found their way to warmer climates. Denver, CO.
