While floating down a stretch of the Snake River in WY we startled this Sandhill Crane who was hidden in the grass on the river bank. They squawked a Sandhill Crane squawk and did a big jump of alarm but given the river was moving us right along they soon had the bank to themselves again.

Layered Lands

Wilsons Phalarope

We found a nice sized group of these guys feeding in shallows ponds created by the the recent rain and snowmelt in Northern Colorado. What a beautiful bird.
Bullocks

The Oriole that is. Bight orange and beautiful the Bullocks Oriole. Who can resist that goatee and the Zoroesque mask. We typically see hundreds of Oriole nest in the winter and early spring but only catch a rare glimpse of the maker. This year we were lucky and got several nice opportunities.
Western Kingbird

A very well dressed Western Kingbird striking a nice 3/4 profile for the camera on a warm but slightly overcast morning.
