Sometimes it’s warm and foggy and other times it’s cold and foggy. This was a morning the earth could see it’s breath and I was looking for an extra layer to wear under my old down jacket.

Bone Dry
Starting out on foot on a trail we would usually be cross country skiing at this time of year. Needless to say that while the mountain tops are indeed covered in snow things below are still bone dry. Nonetheless it was a nice hike as that harsh and contrasty solstice light provided just enough warmth to keep us marching along.
Big views of distant peaks and a canyon where the Yellowstone river flows.
Dry grass and a rock lined ridge pointed the way as a late morning start quickly dissolved into afternoon.
Long shadows on a short day as we wound are way back home.
Bone dry but we hope that all changes soon.
Decembers Light
The mid-December sun, traveling low across southern sky casts long shadows on the icey blue face of a small pond and gently lights the landscape beyond. Decembers light is like no other and helps me keep track of the time like no wall calendar or wristwatch can.

On this day clouds were oftens thick and at other times just filled the sky. A splash of color always present and a December mood, a special mood, filled the air.
A December mood, a quiet mood,a special mood was there.

Color, ravens and light.
Soaking up color on a typical November day. Cloudy skies gave way to intermittent beams of sunlight filtering through the forest. Warm layers on when the breeze blew and of when the wind was calm.
A Raven called and flew overhead and in the distance they touched down.
Gray trees cast a shadow on white-white stone as the sunlight filtered through.
Color, a raven and light kept things warm on this November day.
