Spring time is Rabbit time. Last weekend we saw plenty of healthy rabbits roaming the sagebrush and grasslands of the Arapahoe Wildlife Refuge as well as plenty of Hawks looking for an easy meal. Luckily for this guy he stayed on guard and was reluctant to stray too far from the cover of the sage.
A morning walk springs to life as fresh new leaves and vibrant colors paint the still brisk morning air.
The surprise of the day was a Dragonfly lurking about on wild roses trimmed short by the deer. Not much prey for this little predator so early in the season but don’t worry the bugs will come.
And even the coniferous trees were getting in on the action this morning.
Nothing fancy today….simply spring.
An American White Pelican enjoying a wonderful spring sunset high in the Rocky Mountains. The grass is just greening up around the edges of the lake but the Pelicans have arrived on their way to the boreal forests where many breed. A sure sign summer is on it’s way.
Finding their way through a massive landscape without a map a forest beetle enjoys the ride across the forest floor.
Wandering the ponds and grasslands of Arapahoe National Wildlife Refuge on a quiet day and finding what we came for.
A quiet day.
This good looking guy with a bit of a snowy muzzle was photographed earlier this year. I am sure the grasslands where he roams are greening up, and even though he looked quite happy this snowy day, I bet he is happier now that spring has arrived.
Within a day or so of the ice melting off this small pond a spring surprise occurred.
Looking back and enjoying what was and what will be.
Winter was winter this year as a golden sunset brings a glow to the rapidly melting landscape nearby.
A Great Blue Heron perched on blue rocks looks for that afternoon meal.
Sometimes you send yourself a postcard from your past.
A gentle reminder that it time to go back.
Not in time but in the present.
