Perhaps our truce will continue into the spring ass who has time to quarrel when the sky is so blue.

We usually don’t see Chippie up this early in the spring. However with the snow rapidly receding and the temperatures somewhat above average Chippie, two in fact, have decided it was time to get busy and awake from a winter in their dens.
Last we we noticed two Chipmunks darting and foraging non-stop even though the grass is still very brown and many parts of the landscape are still covered in a blanket of snow. This guy found a few morsels under the bird feeder where a selective Red-Breasted Nuthatch had discarded a few seeds onto the ground.

Perched along a country road the male Mountain Bluebirds have return to lay claim to the nest boxes nearest to what they consider the best feeding grounds. While the ground may still bear snow these guys know the early bird gets the girl.

The changes may be subtle but in only a work-weeks time Mr Lemmon Chin has become Mr. Lemmonhead.

After a long cold February an American Bison lounges in the warmth of a sunny March morning.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Bluebird sky and sleeves rolled up.
Although the snow is still piled high a day like this leaves no doubt spring is on its way.

Our Resident Rocky Mountain Cottontail takes a break from munching down the wild rose bushes.

It’s only early March and no doubt more flakes will fly and cold will return but in the meantime grass long buried is exposed and a nice meal to be had.

We ran into this Coyote last week prowling the neighborhood.
Perhaps now we know why the rabbit population close to home seems diminished this year.

While I am not a big fan of bananas this Variegated Squirrel sure was.
The Variegated Squirrel is a medium sized tree squirrel found broadly throughout Central America. A diurnal squirrel that rarely ventures onto the ground foraging and nesting in the trees.
It is funny how seeing a species of animal that is so similar yet so different, in this case a squirrel, from those in our day to day lives can elicit a deep internal wow.
For example, when a red squirrel passes us by in the forest nearby we don’t give a second glance, but we stood and watched this guy as long as we could remarking on the colors of their fur and behavior similar yet different from the squirrels in our forests at home.
Happy Friday and wishing you a wonderful weekend and perhaps a little something different?
