A little Female Common Goldeneye enjoys a swim along the river on winter day.

Most of the time we find Spotted Towhees in the underbrush kicking about foraging for a meal and that is just where I found this heard this guy as well. The problems is that when they are kicking about in the undergrowth they are easily heard but seldom seen. Luckily this guy flew up into the branches of a shrub with just enough of an opening to snap a quick photo and get a good look of that brilliantly colored red eye.
A nice way to start the new year indeed.
