With the weather this last week going from shirt sleeves and short to gore-tex and boots in the course of a single day this Prairie dog asks the question is it spring yet?
Although I like the unpredictability of it all it sure was nice sitting on the patio with the afternoon sun warming my bones the other day.
Is it spring yet?
A splash of spring colors. No flowers this early but the blue, blue skies and red and orange willows make it feel like winter is a thing of the past even with snow covering the ground and ice on the creek.
Happy spring to you all.
Or Autumn for you all down south of the equator.
Listening to the light as it peeks into forests that were dark as night only weeks ago.
Hearing shadows say a new season is on the way.
Light and dark meet to melt creeks.
With brighter light comes brighter shadows.
Cold snow and warm shadows bring a treat to end the day.
First a bit of rain but just beyond the horizon the skies are blue.

There is nothing that says spring has fully arrived like the Song Sparrows song.
With just a few leaves springing forth this Song Sparrow perches between singing their song.
Whereas most of our spring has felt like Summer this spring day felt like Spring and even more it felt like April. April when the sky is blue, the sun is warm and the wind blows with the last of winters chill.
Where the tress lack leaves but you see them soon to come.
April when things change.

Catkins emerge like caterpillars crawling from a tree. One after another glowing in the forest light.
One after another springing to life.

Well it just had to happen. The Peach Tree just decided it was time to flower and along comes an April snow shower. Looks iffy for peaches again this year. However, given the lack of moisture we have had this spring five inches or so of an April shower is truly a welcomed event and perhaps will bring May flowers.
The Forster’s Tern is a bird we often see fishing in marshes, ponds and lakes as spring returns. We see them hovering high above just out of good camera range and then they dive into the water at a velocity that is hard to capture. After each dive they quickly return to work high above the water and keep at it with a persistence that is truely admirable.
All I can say is look out below you fishes the pond because the Terns are back.
nature has no boss
