Hiking up high towards the summit of Eyjafjallajökull. Volcanic rock, sky,snow melting into water on its way to the sea and space enough to feel at ease.
A nice telephoto lens can be a great learning tool and this shot is a good example. You think you are being sneaky, hidden behind the shrubs on the rivers edge, watching this pair of Northern Shovelers feeding. Then you peer through your lens and lo and behold they are looking right back at you. Still feeding, relaxed, yet aware of your presence. Ecological awareness on display.
Winter light shining into the redwoods along the the Navarro river in Northern California. Somehow I seem to always find the beam of light that is focused upon a beautiful old stump or the stump finds me. Not really sure which way it works but I really enjoy the feeling of being in these forests.

After the leaves have gone the trees remain.
Once domestic but now free, an apple tree thrives when left to grow on it’s own terms underneath an old cottonwood tree. Something to aspire to….. and boy did those apples make a fine pie.
