After three very cold days there is very little open water around for the ducks. However, this group of hooded mergansers found a patch and seem to be enjoying the late afternoon sun on a very cold day.

Well I have made it one full year into this journey. It has been and will continue to be a vehicle that may wiggle from side-to-side a bit but keeps on track nonetheless. We spent the better part of warm and sunny Jan Sunday watching a variety of duck behavior on the local pond including this fine looking American Widgeon pair which were following the Red Headed Ducks around trying to steal a meal, as usual.
