We noticed this Bumble Bee loaded full with pollen climbing a small gravel bank.
Was his load to heavy for him to fly?
Further up the bank he clambered clearly on mission.
Ahhh, mission revealed, a small sip of water from along this gravel bank was what he climbed up for.
Clearly this bee knows hydration is key for a hard days work in the sun.
A few quick sips and off he flew to deliver his goods to the hive.
Walking along the cattails of a marsh and listening to a symphony of Marsh Wrens singing their song out of sight yet O’so close is a wonderful thing. And it is always a treat when a Wren pops up and sings that song in plain sight for a minute or two.
The Joe Pye Weed is in full bloom and this painted Lady Butterfly is happy about that. Although known for attracting butterflies we have noticed others to find Joe Pye quite to their liking as well.

And this lovely looking bee with pincers you don’t want to mess with like Joe Pye.
A hub of activity with lovely flower to boot.
A porcupine peaking out from behind a lodgepole pine near Willow Creek Pass in Colorado. We seldom see theses guys while out and about so this was a treat.
We heard this female Sparrow chirping away and singing non stop from the other side of the lake. When we got nearer to her she went silent but did allow a few quick photos before darting back into the thicker brush along the lakeshore.
One of your favorite birds to hear is the Grey Catbird. Their song can go one and on and it is always fun to just sit for a bit and listen to them sing.
A comma Butterfly sipping sweet nectar and still going strong even though they look to have gone through the ringer with wings in tatters. Resilience in action.

We saw each of these fuzzy little caterpillars on two consecutive hikes. It is just amazing the forms that life on this wonderful plant takes.
We recently had a chance to make a quick drive through Teodore Rosevelt Nation Park and were stuck by the wonderful, open and rugged nature of a landscape with plenty of room to roam and were also reminded of this quote by a President who many consider the greatest conservation Pesident our country has seen.
“We have become great because of the lavish use of our resources. But the time has come to inquire seriously what will happen when our forests are gone, when the coal, the iron, the oil, and the gas are exhausted, when the soils have still further impoverished and washed into the streams, polluting the rivers, denuding the fields and obstructing navigation.”
That quote spoken over one hundred years ago still rings true today and we are finding out what will happen.

A Tri-Colored Bumble Bee getting acquainted with a Purple Coneflower. Although the introductions were awkward the date was a success.
