The unseasonably warm weather we are having has left me feeling that I should be seeing more birds on my daily walk. To fill the void until spring actually returns this photograph we took last spring of a nice looking Male Yellow Headed Blackbird will have to do the trick.

Woot! Maybe I’ll try this for the letter Y, with your permission. Great shot!

Sure give it a go and I would love to see what you can do with it. Getting down to the letter Y, what’s next?

This is my second cycle through the alphabet. I think next cycle will all be portraits of famous people. No photo, only the letter clue and the drawing, and we’ll see how many people can guess. I really enjoy portraits. It’s a very weird journey I’m on. I never know where this train is gonna take me.
Thanks for the permission for this bird, I’ll enjoy it with such a tight shot. π

A yellow headed black bird? I never knew such a thing existed. I just thought all black birds were…well…black (with maybe a little bit of white)! The yellow looks unreal – almost wax-like because it is so glossy. . Thanks for the education!

Hi Jane, Well around here our Blackbirds mainly come not all black if yo can believe that. We have the Yellow Headed guys as well as the Red-Winged version which reside in the cat-tails around ponds in the summer. Hope your day is going great.

A striking photo of a bird I have never seen before! It does not live in our area.

He is quite a good looking fellow. We do not see these guys in our local areas but if we travel as little as 30 miles to the east of Denver we can. What a difference a few miles makes. Hope your day is going well.

Beautiful! We have the red wings, but not these in northern NM, but we saw some south west of Albuquerque in a wetland area. Nice crisp photo!

No problem. Interesting, so does it means the color fades a little the rest of the time? It is certainly an attractive yellow!

Hi, I do believe that in winter the color of the males fades a bit however I have only seen them in winter once at a bird refuge in New Mexico so it may not always be the case.
