While out at a local lake on our kayaks we were treated to a very unexpected sight…a mink hunting crawfish. This guy/gal was working the shoreline and caught at least two crawfish while we watched from out in the lake on our kayaks. We had no idea mink lived along the shores of this lake and have never seen one before. Another reminder that those little moments sure can make your day.

Those moments are great! Sometimes we see a flash of blue & orange when we canoe on our local river. it only lasts a few seconds, but the glimpse of those Kingfishers is so exhilarating.

Hi, I know that feeling exactly as kingfishers alway seem to keep their distance and you see and hear them fl by and land on a branch but you get jut close enough and they are off. Thanks for the feedback as we really appreciate it and hope your day is going well.

Lucky shot, Mike, they are hard to capture as they move fast, evidenced in this ‘action’ image. Since underwater snare traps have been outlawed here in MA, there has been an uptick in mink, otter and beaver populations. Beavers are the most notable, as you can see their work. The others are a bit more elusive.

Hi Eliza, when we first saw this guy we thought it might be an otter but on closer inspection we realized it was a mink. They are fairly rare out here in Colorado so this was a lucky sighting. Yes, they are move fast as this guy was always on the move even after catching a few crawfish.
