Hi Eliza, the penguin resemblance is certainly there and it is amazing to notice how short the wings on some types of waterfowl have become.

I noticed that too and wondered if it was the perspective. It’s amazing they can lift off with such small wings.

Hi Eliza, they can lift off but must run on the surface to do so sl do most of the diving ducks. I think the short wings are a trade off for swimming ability. It seems the dabbling ducks have longer wings and can take off directly form the waters surface without having to run.
