You are a skilled photographer without a doubt. This image invokes a gut reaction in me that has me wondering is it the B&W or subject matter (or both) that makes the landscape seem forbidding? Dead trees present vertical, water horizontal, snowy peaks 3D and then a dull gray sky. It is interesting to consider different perspectives, don’t you think?
Hi Eliza, I find the photo both foreboding as well as welcoming. That is based upon my perspective having been the photographer and the experiences I have had in that environment. The overall landscape is sure one that presents barriers. I think we have to consider different perspective and more importantly take the time to do that. Hope your day was a good one.
Yes, I thought about how new or unfamiliar environments can seem scary. I think it’s our vulnerability in wilderness settings. One needs to learn a place before they can become comfortable in it, as you definitely are! 🙂
Good thoughts and we probably are also divided by our evolutionary history in which wilderness was a part of us and were learned both it’s comforts and dangers plus the added modern cultural ideas of romanticized wilderness as nothing but beauty as well as nothing but hardship depending on the story.
I hope you do get to spend some time in Yellowstone. Be sure to at least take some time to get a little off the beaten track if you are able to as this is where the magic happens.
You to. Was a good weekend thanks. Visited and old gold mining town we used to go to when I was a kid. Photos coming soon. 🙂 Hope you had a good weekend swell!
Hi and thanks. I am with you in that whenever we leave Yellowstone we quickly have a ongoing to get back and explore it more. thanks for the feedback as we really enjoy hear your thoughts on the blog. Have a great Sunday.
