A Black Necked Stilt enjoying some quiet time alone in a temporary pond created by spring rains. Soon the pond will be gone and the Stilt will have moved on.
I agree Mary, a very special and short lived time. This bird enjoying tier time alone in a pond that may only last for a week or two. A bit of a lesson for us all. Hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks, It was fun to just sit and watch this guy so quietly hunting all alone but right at home. Hope your day is going well and you are having a fine weekend.
Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to leave us some feedback. We really appreciate it. Hope your weekends going well and wishing you a great week ahead.
HI LB, yes we did get lucky a bit in that the stilt walked wight through the small sun reflection in the pond. it really helped thee lighting and made the shadow strong. Hope your week is off to a great start.
Thanks Ross, we only get to see stilts as they pass through on the spring migration and usually in these transient pools created by spring rain storms. Thanks for your feedback and taking time to leave it. It is always a treat to see a new bird or one you don’t see often so I can relate to your seeing that black-winged stilt. Hope you have a great week ahead.
These moments are precious, are they not? You have captured a rare, beautiful one. Thank you for sharing it with us, Mike.
Peace
Mary

Mike, this is such a great shot! I love that the Stilt is standing, not only in the temporary pool, but right in the sun spot, too.

At around the same time as this post I saw my very first Black-winged Stilts, a European counterpart of the Black-necked.
Lovely image and one that speaks through its simplicity.
