After a snow

After a snowy evening and long cold night a Swainsons Hawk uses a fence post to keep an eye out for a morning meal. Photographed on a quiet stretch of road in Northern Colorado.

  1. Mike – I love an image of a Hawk on a fence post, and shoot them often. Here in the Carson Valley, I use a wide open aperture to blur the colors in the background because we don’t have beautiful scenery like this. Excellent aperture choices to bring out a great background and make the shot! Thanks!

    1. Hi and thanks, sometimes we open up the aperture as well and really like the effect. We also try to sometimes show both an animal and their environment but with varying degrees of success. It’s seems tough to be able to do both adequately. This one turned out and we are pleased you enjoyed it. Hope you are having a wonderful Wed.
