Most of the time we find Spotted Towhees in the underbrush kicking about foraging for a meal and that is just where I found this heard this guy as well. The problems is that when they are kicking about in the undergrowth they are easily heard but seldom seen. Luckily this guy flew up into the branches of a shrub with just enough of an opening to snap a quick photo and get a good look of that brilliantly colored red eye.
A nice way to start the new year indeed.
May your 2018 be filled with wonder, joy and everyday blessings.

I have loved you blog posts in the last year! Thanks for taking the time and effort to share!

Very good shot, especially of ‘the eye’.
I hope your year is off to a good start. Our morning broke with a bright moon in the west and -21˚F. Brrrr!!!

Now that is cold, we experienced -16 F yesterday morning but it eventually warmed above 0. Hope the sun warms thing up a bit today. The new year is off to a good start and promises to be a very fine year.

We smashed a 50 yr old record low for this date of -12. And, we will easily break the record of -14 for tomorrow when we get down to -20 again. I like breaking some records. This one I can skip.
