A Wood Nymph Butterfly taking a break in the shade on a warm summer afternoon.
The exact species I hesitate to take a guess on so if anyone can help out it would be appreciated.

Based on image only I think it is a Southern Pearly-eye (Enodia portlandia). Please provide the time, habitat, and location this butterfly was sighted which aids tremendously in identification.

What a gorgeous butterfly. One doesn’t need to know it’s exact species to admire its beauty and be thankful for its presence.

Hi Josh, I am indeed very thankful for their presence on our beautiful little planet. Giving them their species name to me is showing a bit of respect and perhaps a step towards creating awareness that a butterfly is just not a butterfly but a wonderful individual.
