As the grass now turns to brown the insects follow suit. Once a succulent green a mantis turns to brown.
Moths stay hidden beneath a golden cloak.
And while most flowers have gone to seed a few beautiful prairie coneflowers remain to brighten the fields.
Simple sights on a late summers afternoon.
Have a great weekend.
Those coneflowers are called Mexican Hats here in NM. I just noticed a clump blooming near my fence…nice surprise.
Hi We also call them Mexican Hats. We have yellow ones in our yard but I really liked the golden-orange variety we found blooming out in a meadow.
Beautiful images! I recently had a praying mantis jump on my chin as I crouched over the grass. Freaked me out. HA!
Hi Tracy, that would freak me out as well. Mantis can be so well camouflaged.
