A nice morning treat was a visit by a Goldfinch this week. Not a regular in the winter here by any means. This guy flew in and stayed just the morning before moving along on his way. Wherever that might have been. A splash of color on a overcast February morning.

At the beginning of the winter, we had dozens of goldfinches and then they disappeared. Said to be nomadic in their winter range, I often wonder where they go? Last week they reappeared after 8-10 weeks absence, at least 3 dozen or more and have been emptying four feeders daily – voracious!

I always think of these little birds as summer visitors to the zinnias and sunflowers. What a treat to see them in the winter.
