We spotted this Female Common Yellowthroat quickly moving in and out of the bushes while on a morning walk. While we most often see the males perched out in the open singing we very rarely have seen the female out in the open like this. She only stayed for a minute or two then flew off into a marshy area several hundred yards away.
Stunning photos.

Great shots! I’ve only see the Female Common Yellowthroat in Bryant Park in Manhattan.

HI, the female has always been elusive for us. We often get a glimpse of the males singing out on the edge of wet areas, but the females, not so much.

they used to hang out in a thicket outside my windows. I had never seen one before and called them the bandit finches because of the masks on the males. What an ordinary name for such an interesting bird.

HI and yes the monicker of “common” always seems out of place in naming any species. Just what we would think if birds were to name species…hey there is a “common human”.

Thanks, we do enjoy photographing birds. Especially the little ones. Fun and frustrating at the same time. Just like life I guess.
