The Margay is small wild cat that inhabits much of Central and northern South America. It resembles an ocelot although smaller but with longer legs, tail and larger eyes. A skilled climber the Margay is capable of hunting in the tress. Although it’s range is now strictly limited to Central and South America the fossil record indicates it, or a close relative, was resident in Southern United States at one time.
This beautiful cat sat perched upon a rock at the forests edge and was quite a surprise to see.
Beautiful photo of an elusive cat, Mike. I am curious as to what forest and country you found this margay in?

Oh, so great. Thanks for letting me know, Mike. I’ve never been to the Arenal, but have heard wonderful things about it.

Hi Jet. If or when you get back to Costa Rica it is worth a visit. The birding is great in that area.

Such beautiful animals. Learned something new today. We don’t have these in Germany, but we have another type of wild cat.
