Mosquito Netting

While out on a hike we ran across a couple of trees in which a spider had put up between 3-7 of these wonderful mosquito nets and each was loaded with bugs. We never were able to see the owner of these webs but it sure looks like they will be eating well for the rest of the summer. Any yes, the mosquitos were bad out there that day.

Female Yellowthroat

We spotted this Female Common Yellowthroat quickly moving in and out of the bushes while on a morning walk. While we most often see the males perched out in the open singing we very rarely have seen the female out in the open like this. She only stayed for a minute or two then flew off into a marshy area several hundred yards away.

Elephants on Parade

Shortly after the snow melts and the boggy grassy areas are still wet the Elephant Head Lousewort Flowers (Pedicularis Groenlandica) come into full bloom. Their blooms always seem short lived but this year we were lucky enough to stumble across fields full of them in their prime on a recent hike in the Colorado high country.
