After three very cold days there is very little open water around for the ducks. However, this group of hooded mergansers found a patch and seem to be enjoying the late afternoon sun on a very cold day.

A forgotten photograph I came across on the computer taken on cold quiet road on a long drive home several years ago that was a good fit for today given it did not get above 0 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday and it will be mighty cold today as well. Finally a winters winter day and I am fine with that but somewhere down that road summer does exist..

This wasn’t the biggest iceberg in the pond but boy oh boy the evening light sure made it special. Photographed while kayaking in Sermilik Fjord, East Greenland, August 2013.

A beautiful california quail in a moss covered tree demonstrating that organism and environment are indeed one and the same.

I walked out onto the front porch to an awesome sunrise the other day and grabbed the camera. The only problem is lacking a tripod I knew I couldn’t hold the camera steady enough to get a clear photo so I did what is commonly done and introduced some motion to the photo. Cliche, maybe, but fun nonetheless and life should be fun.

Every year we have a few green winged teal that spend the winter on the local ponds and this year is no exception. Photographed on Clear Creek in Wheat Ridge, CO.

Seeing things eye to eye with a Northern Shoveler. He got his drink I got my photo and it was all good.

A beautiful evening mellowed by the ice offshore producing a bit of low lying fog. Photographed while kayaking in East Greenland.

A visual reminder. Yellowstone National Park.

Thanksgiving is a simple holiday, gather with family and friends and enjoy the day with good food. It really is the simple things I am most thankful for. My wonderful wife Christy, family, a beautiful hiking trail full of wonders and time spent outdoors. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, everywhere.
