This spring the Dark Eyed Junco have been abundant. Singing from the junipers and shrubs which line the fields close by. They have bee around rain or shine and through wind and snow.
It is nice to have them around.

Sometimes you send yourself a postcard from your past.
A gentle reminder that it time to go back.
Not in time but in the present.
Vancouver Island 2015.
Although we have had a nice bevy of spring snows this year the sun rapidly comes out afterwards and thus with each passing snow comes a quick melt down. On a recent walk we took the time to sit and watch the snow melting over a creek which by the way is better than watching paint dry or water boil especially given the fact that “a watched pot never boils”.
A little Red Breasted Nuthatch gives a little reminder for a Monday morning.

A pristine track walked after a late spring snow.
My only regret was the tracks left in snow.
Spring snow enhanced by spring skies were a feast for the eyes.
Along the roads the snowscapes abound. The landscape will soon be free of white and grass will start to grow.

Nice crisp light making nice crisp shadows with the help of an old juniper tree on an early morning hike in the high desert of Western Colorado.
There is no doubt spring is here when you are awoken at 5:00am by a chorus of Robins singing outside your bedroom window. It is a wonderful sound, unless of course you were planning to sleep in that day or by chance you get a Robin who can’t sing so sweet and decides your chimney is the place to be, as we did a few years ago.

A quiet moment in time
This day the sun and the snow combined to create the musical score written in the snow and sung by the creek.
The sound was sweet and random yet patterned nonetheless.
