Bison eats grass and then it poops,bugs eat poo and then lay eggs, grubs grow, birds break apart poo and eat the grubs, the broken apart poo fertilizes soil and new grass grows. What a wonderful cycle.

This was the first time I have had the pleasure to see a Long Billed Curlew and one I will always remember. What an amazing bill these birds have and it is perfectly suited to finding food in the grassy-marshy environments they habit.
This bird foraged in the field for a bit but did not stay around very long. Flying with a bill that long must be a feat in and of itself yet when this bird departed their flight was as elegant as could be.
The grasslands give thanks as spring showers arrive, their thirst is finally quenched. A wonderful cycle of wet then dry continues once again.

At the end of a nice hike we were greeted by the sun poking through the junipers and pinion pine illuminating one of my favorite wildflowers, painted brush. It always feels good to see these flowers glowing in the sun light as spring and summer arrive.

We saw this guy sitting contently at the edge of a temporary pond along a quiet country road in eastern Colorado. I know grackles have a bad reputation with many but that reputation sure cannot be based upon their looks and what a fine looking guy he is.
