Something about fog brings out the quiet in the landscape so much so that sometimes all I want to do is sit and watch the quiet. Photographed while kayaking past one of the innumerable small islets along the west coast of Vancouver Island on a foggy and rainy morning. August, 2015.

In golden grasses

A golden pronghorn walk through golden grasses where plant and animal are one.
what’s lost

Reflecting on a summer that seemed to come and go and somehow felt like it did not exist. There were photos taken that prove it real but even these feel like a dream.

Walks were walked and thoroughly enjoyed yet a nagging voice walked the trail with us. Silent at times and other times loud. A whisper at time and other a shout…..What’s lost may never be found.

Yes, much can be lost in a very short time and now nowhere to run.

familiar faces

The time of year where familiar faces reemerge. As fall moves along the familiar face as well as the song of the Mountain Chickadee returns. Summer spent nearby in the trees but oh so far away. It’s very nice to see a familiar face and one that brings sense to our world.
Prickly Poppies
Prickly Poppies are a wonderful wildflower to have around. On our daily walks we can rest assured we will find some in bloom. Once found, we can stop for a moment and enjoy the show as beetles, bees and ants do their work pollinating these delicate flowers. Even now, as fall approaches and most of the other wildflowers have lost their blooms, a few Prickly Poppies are still going strong.
They a treat for they eyes, like little whipped cream sundaes with a cherries on top.
Those little prickles protect such delicate yet tough flowers.
I am looking forward to see how long they continue blooming into the fall.

A Thousand Miles Away

Smoke form wildfires, most burning over a thousand miles away, allowed us to look directly into the sun well before evening came our way. A not so subtle reminder the ecosystem we inhabit is indeed connected. All living things inhabiting the only planet we have.
