Perhaps our truce will continue into the spring ass who has time to quarrel when the sky is so blue.
While I am not a big fan of bananas this Variegated Squirrel sure was.
The Variegated Squirrel is a medium sized tree squirrel found broadly throughout Central America. A diurnal squirrel that rarely ventures onto the ground foraging and nesting in the trees.
It is funny how seeing a species of animal that is so similar yet so different, in this case a squirrel, from those in our day to day lives can elicit a deep internal wow.
For example, when a red squirrel passes us by in the forest nearby we don’t give a second glance, but we stood and watched this guy as long as we could remarking on the colors of their fur and behavior similar yet different from the squirrels in our forests at home.
Happy Friday and wishing you a wonderful weekend and perhaps a little something different?
Instead of the usual scolding I almost got hypnotized by this Red Squirrel.
Look into my eyes he said, from now on you will feed the squirrels and not the birds.
It was so close all I could think about was putting a bog of peanuts on the grocery list but he couldn’t help himself and started with his squawking.
Cute like a Chipmunk only bigger. The Golden Mantled Group Squirrel is a resident of mountain and coniferous forest regions across the western United State and Canada.
We spent some time observing this guy/gal while on a recent hike. They were busy scurrying about and not too concerned about us hanging out watching them. They moved about nimbly in the rocky terrain where we found them that afternoon.
Before we left they collected a nice big piece of moss presumably for their den.
So, if you see a giant chipmunk running around it is probably a Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel.
Perched upon a wonderful old tree stump a Red Squirrel sat flaunting it’s gorgeous red tail to the other squirrels nearby. This winter the Red Squirrels seem much more mild mannered than last winters Frenemy. Will it stay that way all winter? I’ll do my part the best I can.
Frenemy….a person with whom one is friendly despite a fundamental dislike or rivalry.
Meet our new friend..a small Red Squirrel. Compared to the Grey Squirrels we are used to he is tiny yet just as feisty and shall I say squirrel like. Cute enough to be a friend but squirrel enough to be an enemy.
Only time will tell.
