Cinnamon Teal
With the snow still flying and a cold wind blowing we were surprised to find a few early arrivals to the marshes near the Arapahoe National Wildlife Refuge last weekend. One such arrival was this handsome Cinnamon Teal hanging out in last years grass. Walden, CO.
Black Crowned Night Heron
Waiting ever so patiently to approach the edge of a creek we watched this black Crowned Night Heron sneak up to the edge but to his chagrin we had better luck watching him than he did fishing. Arapahoe National Wildlife Refuge in Walden, CO.

Peeking out from the sagebrush and just for a moment we had the pleasure of meeting this Red tailed Fox. She quickly dipped back into the sage and got on with her business. A moment well spent.
The Avocet and the tern: a short story.
Imagine you are an American Avocet enjoying a quiet morning in the pond. A bit of feeding and then a little relaxation then a bit of feeding.
Then without warning a Forester’s Tern makes a sudden and unannounced and dramatic visit to your patch of the pond.
Looks like he got what he was after. Just a brief interruption of an otherwise peaceful morning.
