Mr Mallard
Make no bones about it, I get excited watching the less common waterfowl that overwinter on the local creeks and ponds, but there is just something special about the Mallard. Maybe a comforting familiarity or perhaps their mild demeanor and wonderful quacking. Anyway, this guy sure stood out the other day. Well dressed in his finest breeding feathers saying what needed to be said in such a simple way.
Lurker

Although the snow geese and the coyote seemed content to be going about their respective business in the pre-dawn light I think this might change as the day goes on.
U-Turns Allowed

Just as we turned a corner while skiing on the Blacktail plateau we came across this guy having breakfast. We watched him for a minute but when he stomped his front hoof and gave us a grunt knew it was time for Quick U turn. We did not get to ski to our planned destination but it was a good day nonetheless.
Surf Scooter
My first thoughts upon seeing this Surf Scooter (just a speck in that big ocean) hanging out taking on the crashing waves and doing it seamlessly was pure amazement. How can a species be so well adapted to such a crazy environment. Then on second thought I guess they are no different than humans speeding along on a snow covered highway during Monday morning rush hour. Nature finds a way.
