Eight

Mom is giving these youngsters a bit of freedom but still maintaining the ever watchful eye. A textbook study in good parenting if I do say so myself.

That’s fantastic. It’s almost as if they are swimming right up to your camera! Sigh, I wish I had that talent, alas….anyway, I think it’s best to just enjoy the talents of others!

    1. Good observation. I took this photo from my kayak and Mom was letting these youngsters get pretty close. She eventually called them away but they might have swam right up to me otherwise.

I remembered last July while I was swimming in the river of Zurich (the Limmat), a group of ducklings were swimming along with me, similar to those in your photo 🙂 really cute.

    1. Anna, that must have been an awesome experience. We took this photo from our kayak so while although not swimming along we were pretty close and kayaking along with the ducklings. Hope your week is going great.

      1. They are so sweet, and there are always 2 males in attendance. With herons and gulls nearby, it could be they are on guard duty as Mum leads the little ones to the safety of the reeds if there appears to be any danger.

    1. Hi, thanks for the very kind and constructive feedback it is really appreciated. I was in a kayak for those shots and feel lucky to have been swimming with these guys and watching the Mom gently guide them along but still give them space. I am glad the story came through in the photo. Wishing you a great weekend.
