Duck On The Menu

Looks like a nice little feast of Merganser leg for this Bald Eagles dinner judging from the bill barely visible in the grass. Photographed while kayaking on the Snake River in GTNP.

    1. Hi, thanks for the feedback as we enjoy comments. We were about 15-20 feet away on a gentle stretch of river which allowed the photograph to be taken. However, there was some current so a quick couple of shots and the river whisked on our way. Have a great day and weekend.

I’ve seen eagles go after seagulls where I live and dive into the ocean after fish almost as big as they are. Quite intelligent birds really. Sometimes people get a little squeamish but it’s natures way isn’t it?

    1. It is amazing the size of things eagles can catch. I have even seen a Golden Eagle dive bomb a small deer. However it was not very successful. They were then circling around giving my dog, who was along on the hike, al once over. Yikes! but they circled a few times and then flew off.

I follow another photography blog of a man who loves eagles and bears out on the west coast of Canada and the photos of these birds are magnificent. I love the birds but not so much the bears, I’m very very cautious about bears. I know that eagles can carry off small dogs and cats…still, that is what nature is about….the strongest and smartest survive! Glad to hear your dog didn’t become some eagles breakfast! LOL

        1. I think I know who you are talking about. Is he in Tofino? He has great pictures and I have quite a fondness for that area. I am also glad my dog did not become an eagles lunch although I think she was not quite small enough for them to give it a try. Have a great weekend.

Yes! He does. I too have a great fondness for that area and sadly, I seldom go up there anymore. Must make a point of going! I would say any eagle willing to tackle a large animal would have to be very very hungry. LOL

    1. I hear you and we even have a painting my of mergansers on the wall in our home and I do like that Nature is Nature saying and it is so with even trying to be so. Hope you are having a great day.
