Well not just any two birds. A mom Merganser and her lone chick. They were quietly sitting on this log as I paddled by in my kayak. I was able to snap a few pics before moving on in leigh lake GTNP.

Hi Jon, yeah the Mom has a great pose she notices i am there but not too concerned. Taking photos from the kayak is a great way to get a new perspective but can be difficult when the current or waves bounce you around.

After a trip to Iceland i’m learning about northern hemisphere waterfowl. What a great shot showing the merganser chick’s feather colourations compared to the adult’s 🙂
