This little guy had a beautiful blue belly which he refused to show us for a photograph. Nonetheless he was quite obliging to let us get a nice portrait of him perched upon an old downed tree near Bangs Canyon in Grand Junction Co.

  Thanks, I am not up to speed on my reptile ID so I did not give a specific name for this guy but he was a great one to observe staking out his turf on this log. Hope your day is going well and wishing you all the best.

Nice pic! I never saw one of these when I was in Co but was amazed at the arid land driving up to Grand Junction!

I believe it’s a blue bellied fence lizard. we have them in cali too. They have this great little push up ritual for mating that is fun to watch.

  HI and thanks for the species ID my reptile identification is lacking and I really ought to buy a field guide some day. We did not see this guy doing his push-up ritual but have also observed that in otter lizards in the past. It is really cool to watch. Hope you are having a great day and wishing you a great week.

      Well it does make learning about a species easier if we see it often. Thus a case for as much preservation of the natural world as possible. Without it there would be little to learn.
