A mule deer demonstrating a bit of youthful exuberance gives us a playful look on a beautiful spiring morning that just seems like it is meant for play. In the Foothills near Denver, CO.
Such a coincidence…we were on a hike to “Dripping Springs”, Las, Cruces, NM area when we saw a group of deer that I could only describe as having bunny ears. I had never seen mule deer before, but I am assuming that’s what they were. I did manage to snap a few from a distance. Beautiful creatures.
Your photo is awesome!
Hi, yes these guys have huge ears…all the better to hear you sneaking up on them and to be honest the ears on this gal are small compared to a couple of other in her group. That soft fun in the middle of the ears really makes one want to get close enough to give it a little rub doesn’t it. Have a great day.
Wonderful and very cute – and caught right while looking at you. Great pic. Did it jump around, run or stand still for longer while you took that shot? I mean, was it a series of shots or did you wait until it stopped (supposed it jumped around)?
Beautiful shot.

Well, we did get pretty close and those guys were curious as well so that helped matter. Happy Monday.

Sweet capture, Mike! Its markings are lovely and those huge ears must be where they got the name ‘mule’ 🙂

HI Eliza, probably so and the ears on this mule are even on the small side.
