Taking a break from patrolling the marsh a Northern Harrier enjoys the morning sun while hidden in the reeds. Mackerricher State Park, Northern California.
Nice, Mike! Don’t you just love watching them? I love how agile they are, and how the movement of one wing feather can allow them to dive actually behind themselves onto their prey that they might have just seen out of the corner of their eye. I love following them with binoculars. Just spectacular.
Peace
Mary
Hi Mary, we really love watching these guys as well. It is amazing how they fly so low over the marsh and wetland looking for prey. So adept and nimble. We were lucky to get a photo of one this close as typically they seem to be a bit shy. Hope your weekend is going well.
Thanks, we really like these hawks and they almost have a cot/owl like look to them…really cool. Have a great weekend and thanks fro the feedback as we really appreciate it.
Wonderful! The Northern Harrier is such a majestic bird (I’ve never seen one before) and the bokeh adds a beautiful background that does not distract from the main subject
Hi LB, It is very unique for a hawk with somewhat cat/owlish face and watching them in flight is a joy. Thanks for the kind words on the shot. Much appreciated.
