A Blue Heron waits, and waits, and waits for the rain to finally end, taking it all in stride although there was maybe a twinge grumpiness beginning showing on their face. Photographed along the Northern California Coast. Dec, 2015.
Love your pictures. In trying to create a windbreak on the north side of our property, I didn’t realize I was also creating a bird sanctuary. Love nature. I took pictures of storm clouds last evening. They were awesome.
A bird sanctuary by happy accident is not a bad thing at all. I also like photographing clouds so transient and indeed awesome. Hope your day is gong well and thanks for the feedback on the blog we really appreciate it.
That must be a treat so have them visit and being able to see them in flight is wonderful. I enjoy getting a close-up view and realizing their fester colors are so varied and unique. Thanks for the feedback as we really appreciate it.
That must be a treat to have them along on a river trip. Our seem to avoid us while on the water keeping a safe distance and flying always just a bit ahead of us.
I like to watch them fly. They look prehistoric.
Hi, just watched several in flight this past weekend. So big and with the neck made into that s-shape they are so unique.
Pterodactyls
indeed
That’s probably his normal look! 🙂
I agree but I decided to give the benefit of the doubt given the rain storm going on. Hope your dong well and having a great day.
Thanks Mike. It’s a cold winter Friday morning here in Melbourne but otherwise all good!
If I may ask, how cold is a cold winters morning in Melourne?
It depends. This morning was about 2 degrees celsisus.
Well, that is indeed a chilly way to start the day.
Wouldn’t want to cross that bird in a dark alley.
Now way especially with that sharp beak he has.

What a beauty!
He is a good looking guy for sure. Hope your summer is treating you well.
Love the purple-blue of the Great Blue Heron in flight ! We have lots of blues and great blues along the Maumee River every Fall.

Your welcome! Looking forward to more, and the return of our birds, here, in Napoleon, as well.
Thanks.
He sure looks grumpy!
It rained and rained and rained some more so he has a reason to be a little grumpy.
Ahh, he’s not grumpy, he’s just being very patient…
You are probably right and patience was indeed required as it did rain for over a day full on.
I do love their ability to change their appearance just by drawing in their necks. This is definitely a very grumpy look. 🙂
Hi and i agree. They look like completely different birds with neck in or neck out so to speak.
I love these birds. When rafting, or kayaking on the local river they almost always follow us along the ride. Nice composition.
