While near the end of a recent hike, just tromping along which that feeling that being almost back at the car brings, we ran across this male Moose quietly munching away on the remaining summer greens. We had spent the day trying to take close-ups of the remaining summer wildflowers flowers so the 105 mm macro lens was on the camera. Good thing this guy was so close.
Near Crested Butte, CO.
What a great photo Mike
Thanks Miriam, it is always special to run into one of these big guys along the trail. Hope your days was great and wishing you a wonderful week.
Good catch. You were prepared. How do you spell serendipity?
Hi Jim, I think you nailed serendipity. It was a nice way to end a hike and having him close enough to use the lens that was on the camera was sure nice.
I may have wallabies in my backyard but I have never seen a moose in the wild – so jealous! Great photo
Incredible friend to find on a hike, Mike — and the photo is gorgeous.
Thanks Jet, it was indeed a treat to see this guy at the end of a hike and having him close enough to photograph without a long lens was a bonus. Hope your day is going well and wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
Perfect timing, I’d say. Nice photo, Mike. The beginning of fall color makes me a bit ‘triste’ though.
Hi Eliza, yes the fall colors are coming a bit early this summer and not because of cold days but it has been a bit dry. Some years this field with the moose is still filled with flowers this time of year.
Terrific shot, glad he was in your sights!
Thanks Belinda, We are glad he was close enough as well given we only had a single lens with us that afternoon. Hop your day is going well.
Amazing photo. I have always wanted to see a moose in nature. The last time we were going to hike the trail where the moose sightings occurred, bears were in the area. The park ranger wouldn’t let us go any further.
Hi Rebecca, hope that on your next opportunity the trails are safe to travel and you get to see a Moose out in the wild.
Wow I’ve seen a female moose and its baby, but never a male moose.
Hi, we have also run across a female and her calves but is sure was fun to see this guy that afternoon. Hope your having a great day and thanks for the feedback as we really appreciate it.
