Peeking at each other through the long fall grass and sagebrush in Yellowstone NP. I always marvel at how an animals fur matches their environment and the subtle changes that occur from place to place within a single species. This Coyote seem to perfectly match the sage and grass in which they live.

Another wonderful photograph!

Nature’s camouflage always impresses me too. I see it a lot with insect. Great capture and of course the tongue makes it stand out from other coyote photos.

Thanks David, nature’s camouflage is indeed evolution at work. We were watching for quite sometime and although I don’t think this coyote had found something to eat the lip lick was fun to see. Hope your week is going well.

Fantastic example of natural camouflage, Mike. Love the tongue! The only pink in all the yellows, greens and blacks. 🙂

Thanks Jane and we did get a bit lucky with the tongue lick and I like your insight that it adds a different color to the photo.

What a beautiful coyote! Ours are a bit more mousy and less glamorous. Fantastic shot, Mike. The lip lick was just the icing on the cake. I love nothing more than to hear them yipping on a quiet night.

Hi, it is interesting how coyotes in different places have different characteristics. This is a very healthy and good looking Coyote for sure and I agree that hearing them on a quiet night is a great thing to experience. Hope your day is going well.

Our coyotes are a little darker with less fur probably to cope with 100 degrees and high humidity. Hope your day is going well too.

Great photo, the very essence of Autumn. A beautiful animal not sly looking like a fox.

Hi, we did see this guy pounce on something in the grass but we could not really tell if he was successful.

I live in a fairly rural area and I hear them howling at night sometimes. It’s wonderful to be reminded of the wildness of nature’s animals, even in my contemporary world.
Lovely photo.

HI and thanks for the feedback. Yes we do need a reminder in this human-centric period that we share this world with others some big and some small.
Hop your day is going well and wishing you a good week.
