We sat and watched as a large group of Cedar Waxwings moved in and polished of bush after bush of these dark berries in one of our local birding haunts. With just one berry left remaining on this bush this bird pull off a berry and has it just on the tip of their tongue.

Absolutely amazing shot!

I always laugh at the stories about the drunken Cedar Waxwings.

Hi Jim, based upon some of the flying I was witnessing that afternoon I would speculate a few of them did have a few too many.

These are such beautiful sleek birds. It’s like they’re wearing formal dress.

Hi and I agree they are very formally dressed indeed. We were lucky this year as they usually only seem to hang around a week or two but have stayed at least a month this year.

Hi and thanks. These guys were very busy feeding that afternoon and it was hard to find just the right one to focus on as they flew in and out of the bushes very quickly.

Tongue as spear – great shot! We have robin flocks on Roxy Ann Peak now, but, if we’re lucky (in varies widely by year) these may give way to flocks of waxwings. We also have the oak titmouse, whose little crest gets it mistaken for a waxwing if we’re not looking carefully.

Hi both the robins and the waxwings we working over this patch of dried berries. The robing we defending it but to little avail as they were outnumbered by the waxwings this day.
