We have lots of backroads in IA. Viewing with http://bit.ly/2pRerYF shows a patchwork of roads every mile, more road miles than the entire US interstate system by nearly 3x. That is a lot of country roads. John Denver had a tune about that. 🙂
Hi Jim, are all those roads to take care of all the farm fields? That is quite a patchwork of roads and looks like a quilt of human activity being sewn.
A quilt is a good description. My wife quilts and makes some like that. Most of the roads are still gravel. Dust flies a lot between rains. Cars come into town coated.
I have always felt that you are only getting somewhere on a trip once you hit the dirt roads and having tow ash the car on a Monday after a trip becomes not a chore but cherished memory of a great weekend.
Thanks, we do the same and have found that on most occasions to work quite well. There is an understated beauty the open spaces east of the Rockies can bring.

This is a nice way to start the day. I miss those open vistas and the prairie.

These are great! I like to head east away from the mountains when needing real quiet and space.
