A male American Redstart full of color and song on a cool early summer afternoon. Never one to sit still for long this little guy was both a frustration and joy to watch and photograph.

Swan River National Wildlife Refuge.

Sweet capture, Mike. I’ve been enjoying several pairs this year, one of which is in the backyard, so we get to see lots of activity.

Hi Eliza, this was our first experience with this little bird. They don’t spend summers in our area. It was only further up north that we got the pleasure.

There seem to be many more this year, for which I am delighted.

Wonderful pic! Warblers are a challenge to photograph but well worth the effort. And a joy to listen to.

Hi and yes it is a challenge and best of all if your photos don’t work out you get to go back and try again. Time well spent.

Your probably used to that kind of heat? I would melt.

I always hated the cold and actively enjoy our steamy weather. My Dad was Hispanic/Native so maybe it’s in the genes.

Could be genes or were you raised in the warm as well? Anyway I used up my complete load of heat tolerance while going to school in AZ for several years.

This was a life bird for me this spring, and I think it’s one of the most handsome creatures under the sun!

Hi Tanja, they are sure wonderful little birds and ones we don’t see here in Colorado often. Did you see them as they were passing through in migration? We saw this little guy up in Montana.

Yes, during migration. A female at Chico Basin, and a male at Fountain Creek Regional Park. I felt very fortunate.
