First Whiskers

It was late summer and it sure looks looks like somebody was starting to grow up.

Just like that bit of peach fuzz on a teenage kid this male Downey Headed Woodpecker is just beginning to sprout those distinctive red feathers that makes a boy a man.

    Oh, what a treat to see!! I have never seen a baby Downy! We have an adult that loves our hummingbird feeder. In winter he hangs out at the feeder. Not sure what he is eating there this time of year. No bugs. Not exactly a seed eating beak! I love this little baby picture!!
    I love what you said about the feathers that make a boy a man, haha!
